Goal and vision
The aim of the Foundation is to improve the quality of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Tanzania and to make it available for more people.
This goal can best be achieved by improving the self-sufficiency of the Tanzanian Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and by adapting to the local environment. At present, 12 Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons have been trained in Dar es Salaam since 2001. It is the intention to establish three new departments in the three regional hospitals. To achieve this, we seek support from the Tanzanian government and the board of the regional hospitals.
The department at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam has now been refurbished. At present, 12 Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons have been trained in Dar es Salaam since 2001. By using the clinic in Dar es Salaam as the basis, the foundation is continuing her efforts by sharing the knowledge and experience with the three regional hospitals (Bugando Medical Centre in Mwanza, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi and Mbeya Referral Hospital in Mbeya) to enhance the availability of proper care for all patients in Tanzania. The colleagues in Dar es Salaam are most qualified to make the necessary arrangements with the local authorities to expand the OMFS service.
We have reached an agreement with Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi to start a new clinic there in 2016. The instruments and equipment are ready for shipment in Februari 2016.
